The underlying driver behind this project is the concept of community and community empowerment. It is reported that the UK may face regular power cuts as early as 2016 as investment in new and large-scale power generation is insufficient to meet growing demand for energy and planned closure of existing power generation plant.  In addition to this, as the global economy recovers from the recession, coupled with ever-diminishing stocks of proven conventional fuel sources, energy prices have been predicted to increase significantly and rapidly over the coming years.

Existing community owned renewable energy projects within the UK have and continue to show that these provide financial benefit to the residents that participate with them as well as bringing people closer together and allowing lost amenities to return, or new ones to arise.

The West Wales Eco Centre takes all these matters very seriously and is committed to helping as many communities as possible to protect themselves into the future through the People’s Power Station; this task, though very ambitious, is not insurmountable when there is enough will.
